Antpool's hashrate resurgence
Narrowing the gap with Foundry USA Pool
The hashrate connected to Antpool, the second-largest bitcoin mining pool, experienced a notable surge in October.
As of Oct. 29, the total blocks mined by Antpool this month reached 1,175, the highest number since 2016, according to data from TheMinerMag.
With this resurgence in hashrate, Antpool is narrowing the gap with Foundry USA Pool, which has seen its market share decline to 28%. Nevertheless, the combined market share of the two largest pools remains at a historic high of 55%.
It is worth noting that Antpool launched a cloud mining business earlier this month, indicating that part of the increased hashrate may have originated from its proprietary mining operations.
Furthermore, Bitmain imported 19 EH/s of S19XPs to the U.S. in the third quarter of the year, potentially contributing to the growth of Antpool's hashrate footprint in the U.S.
Although Antpool was divested from Bitmain in 2021, it remains an integral part of Bitmain's ecosystem, which also includes miner manufacturing, proprietary mining, and the financing arm, Antalpha.
